Position Overview

Job Description

The Technical Sales Engineer will play a crucial role in driving revenue growth by leveraging their technical expertise and strong communication and presentation skills to promote our Octopus suite of software and Managed Data Services from our Bardasz Knowledge Lab. In this position, you will collaborate closely with the sales and business development teams to identify customer needs, develop customized solutions, and deliver compelling product demonstrations and presentations. Your deep understanding of the oil and gas industry, particularly in drilling and completions operations, coupled with your technical proficiency, will enable you to establish strong relationships with clients, address their challenges, and articulate the value proposition of our solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand customer requirements, develop customized solution quotes and pricing for our upstream oil and gas software and managed data services, and serve as a key technical resource during the sales process
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of customer needs, considering factors such as project scope, resource requirements, and implementation timelines, to ensure accurate and competitive pricing
  • Assist with the development of technical proposals, RFP responses, and statements of work (SOWs), ensuring they align with the customer's requirements and our capabilities
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with strategic vendors and partners to secure favorable agreements and optimize profitability
  • Work closely with the operations and finance teams to ensure compliance with company policies and contractual obligations during pricing and vendor/partner negotiations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, competitor pricing strategies, and industry benchmarks to inform pricing decisions and remain competitive
  • Provide guidance to the sales team on pricing strategy, discounting policies, and special promotions to maximize revenue while meeting customer needs and market demands
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with strategic vendors and partners, fostering collaboration and exploring opportunities for joint value propositions and co-marketing initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product management and operations teams, to align pricing and solution configurations with product capabilities, costs, and profitability targets
  • Assist in the development of pricing models, pricing tools, and sales collateral to support the sales team in effectively quoting and presenting pricing options to customers
  • Continuously monitor and analyze pricing performance, market dynamics, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for price optimization and product positioning adjustments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Systems Engineering, Geosciences, or a related technical field. An advanced degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical sales, preferably in drilling and completions operations in the upstream oil and gas industry
  • Strong understanding of upstream oil and gas exploration, drilling and completions, and production processes
  • Solid technical background with experience in software solutions, data management, and cloud-based technologies
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence decision-making with clients, colleagues, and executives
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to understand customer requirements and propose appropriate solutions
  • Willingness to travel to client sites as needed
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred
